The Fashion Design Council of India collaborated with the renowned brand Péro to present an extraordinary showcase on the 14th of October at Lakmé Fashion Week, in partnership with FDCI. Péro introduced its latest collection, a vibrant and eclectic carnival of creativity that thrives in a world where uniqueness reigns supreme. Aptly named “Cuckoo & Co.”, this collection was a jubilant tribute to the misfits, eccentrics, and the wonderfully unique.
Celebrating Uniqueness with a Nod to the 1930s
Drawing inspiration from the conformist 1930s era, “Cuckoo & Co.” boldly defied expectations by presenting a vivid array of garments and textiles adorned with a riot of colors, deep tones, psychedelic flowers, and rebellious stripes. The spirit of this collection harked back to the audacious floral neckties that once stood out as symbols of “crazy” and “outlandish” in a sea of uniformity.
A Visual Feast: Crafting the Unconventional
The collection was a visual feast, with floral motifs, medallions, and geometric forms coming to life in three dimensions through crochet, laser-cut fabrics, beadwork, stumpwork, patchwork, appliqué, and cutwork. Jackets, skirts, shirts, and more, crafted from hand-woven Mashru, silk, cotton, and pure wool, showcased a fusion of gingham checks, bold stripes, prints, and color blocking.
A Global Tapestry of Craftsmanship
For this collection, Péro collaborated with artisans from around the world, including women knitters from Himachal Pradesh and Afghani refugee women, to infuse a diverse range of craftsmanship into the collection. Notable European partners, ANT45, PèPè, and Grevi, added sustainability, vibrant footwear, and felt top hats to the mix, completing this extraordinary ensemble.
The Chairman’s Praise
Sunil Sethi, Chairman of FDCI, had this to say about the showcase, “Péro by Aneeth Arora has garnered a massive following among connoisseurs, thanks to her craft-soaked, creative offerings that have a distinct voice. We are thrilled to have been associated with this powerhouse of talent over the years. Péro’s collections consistently go beyond just fabric; they tell a unique story that resonates with artisans and consumers alike. We were proud to have this label close the showcase on day 4 of the Lakmé Fashion Week in partnership with FDCI.”
In conclusion, “Cuckoo & Co.” by Péro at Lakmé Fashion Week was not just a fashion show; it was a celebration of individuality, creativity, and the bold defiance of conformity. The collection’s international collaboration and its vibrant, unconventional designs certainly left a lasting impression on the fashion world.
