With an illustrious presentation of five celebrated artists Gallery Art & Soul, Mumbai is taking over the grounds of Bikaner house with Colour, Stone, Chintz, Grain and Statue featuring Revati Sharma Singh & Raj Shahani, and Act III featuring Vinita Karim, Mahirwan Mamtani and Jin Sook Shinde. Opened on 29th October 2023, it displays the legacy and stories of these five diasporic Indian artists depicting tales of the longing and complexities of life beyond their artistic inspiration.

The exhibition’s opening day was graced by notable presence, including artist Kanchan Chandar, Director of Bikaner House, Delhi. Piyali Dasgupta, Gallery Art & Soul Director Tarana Khubchandani, Sculptor Arzan Khambatta, Artist Sudip Roy, General Vishwa Nath Sharma and Lt General SN Sharma, Artist Jin Sook Shinde, Event curator Arti Sarin, Eminent Artists Manu Parekh and Madhvi Parekh among others.

In the exhibition, Raj Shahani’s sculptures breathed life into ethereal Apsaras, portraying their grace and resilience. His meticulous restoration work, using metal and stone, reflection of his identity. Revati Sharma Singh’s artwork elegantly celebrated her homeland. Her pieces, blending vibrant hues with grain-embedded metalwork, resonated with the audience’s memories of terraced rice fields and precious seeds. Both artists seamlessly fused ancient traditions with contemporary perspectives, creating a captivating exhibition experience.

Gallery Art & Soul Director Tarana Khubchandani expressed her perspective, stating, “This exhibition is a tribute to our homeland and an exploration of inspiration for humanity. We are excited to introduce this concept to art enthusiasts in Delhi.”

The exhibition’s curator, Sumesh Sharma, provided an insightful walkthrough, highlighting the amalgamation of human emotions within the showcased artworks. Artist Raj Shahani described how his work reflects his life and celebrates every fragmented piece of his identity through his statues. Similarly, Revati spoke about how her silver artworks and grains reveal contrasting perspectives of contrasting perspectives of superfluous and valuable life.
