Glenn Close Honored with Career Achievement Award; 'Conclave' Leads with Six Nominations

The AARP’s Annual Movies for Grownups Awards is a distinguished event that honors cinematic achievements by and for individuals over the age of 50. Traditionally held at the Beverly Wilshire, A Four Seasons Hotel, in Beverly Hills, California, the 2025 ceremony was initially scheduled for January 11. However, due to the devastating Southern California wildfires in January 2025, the event has been rescheduled to February 23, 2025. The ceremony will be hosted by the charismatic Alan Cumming and is set to be broadcast by Great Performances on PBS.

This year’s Career Achievement Award will be bestowed upon the illustrious Glenn Close, whose remarkable career spans nearly five decades with iconic roles in films such as Fatal Attraction, 101 Dalmatians, and The Wife. At 77, Close continues to captivate audiences with her versatile performances. Expressing her gratitude, she humorously remarked, “I am so honored to receive the AARP Movies for Grownups Career Achievement Award even though I feel like I’m still 35, if not younger.”

Leading the nominations is the gripping thriller Conclave, which has garnered six nods. Close behind is the Bob Dylan biographical drama A Complete Unknown, with five nominations. Other notable films in contention include Gladiator II and September 5, each securing four nominations.

The Best Actress category features a stellar lineup, with Demi Moore receiving acclaim for her daring role in The Substance. Other nominees include Marianne Jean-Baptiste for Hard Truths, June Squibb for Thelma, Nicole Kidman for Babygirl, and Pamela Anderson for The Last Showgirl.

The Best Actor category is equally competitive, highlighting performances by Colman Domingo in Sing Sing, Ralph Fiennes in Conclave, Daniel Craig in Queer, Jude Law in The Order, and Adrien Brody in The Brutalist. In the television segment, the Best TV Series or Limited Series nominees include Shลgun, Hacks, The Crown, Slow Horses, and Palm Royale, each offering compelling narratives that resonate with mature audiences.
