On Thursday, February 27, 2025, at 6:30 p.m., the New York Botanical Garden (NYBG) hosted its annual Orchid Dinner at The Plaza Hotel in New York City. This elegant event celebrated the Garden’s renowned Orchid Show, which this year was themed “Mexican Modernism” and ran from February 15 through April 27, 2025.
Event Highlights
The Orchid Dinner is renowned for its unique and carefully curated displays of floral artistry. Guests enjoyed cocktails and had the opportunity to purchase exceptional and rare orchids, carefully selected by NYBG’s curators. The evening continued with an elegant dinner and dancing, all set within the opulent surroundings of The Plaza Hotel.
Design and Inspiration
This year’s Orchid Show, “Mexican Modernism,” was inspired by the work of Pritzker Prize-winning architect Luis Barragán (1902–1988). The exhibition celebrated Mexico’s rich botanical heritage, showcasing thousands of orchids arranged in vibrant displays that reflected Barragán’s bold use of color and minimalist aesthetic.
Design Committee
The event’s design committee included prominent figures such as Marc Hachadourian, Director of Glasshouse Horticulture and Senior Curator of Orchids at NYBG. Their expertise ensured that the evening’s floral installations were both innovative and reflective of the show’s Mexican Modernism theme.
